Abstract

Phase change optical disk with optical phase encoding was adapted to land/groove recording. R/W characteristics of this disk was measured under the condition of 640nm wavelength, 0.56μ m track pitch, 0.285μ m bit pitch and (1-7) modulation code. The disk has the characteristics equal to a conventional land/groove disk. Moreover, resolution, overwrite jitters and cross erase of the optical phase encoding disk were compared with that of the conventional one. These characteristics of the disk is superior to that of the conventional one.
