Abstract
Recently, the high performance serial bus IEEE 1394 is expected as a standard digital interface for multi-media data transmission with popularization of both digital audio-visual equipment and personal computer. However, the maximum distance of conventional 1394 cable is limited to less than 4.5m. We developed a long-haul adapter "TERMBOY" which extends the distance between equipment into over 50m keeping interoperability with IEEE 1394-1995 equipment. This paper describes several key technologies of the IEEE 1394 long-haul transmission.
