A new method of loss-less compression of gray-scale images, using The combination of "classic" predictive coding and adaptive arithmetics coding, has been studied. The characteristics of the method are discussed in relation to the context dependence of the coding. and the nonstationarity of the images. Several experimental results are shown in comparing with the conventional JPEG-LS method.
