High density optical recording using MAMMOS readout

Abstract

MAMMOS(Magnetic Amplifying Magneto-Optical System) is one of the technologies that can overcome the diffraction limit. Since, it can achieve both high resolution and large signal simultaneously, it is available for next generation MO systems. We discovered that it is very effective for readout of small magnetic domains to apply an in-plane magnetic field. Under conditions where λ=635 nm and NA=0.55, the bit error rate(BER) of 0.15 μm packed domain was 2 ×10^<-4>.
