Abstract
Reflective color LCDs with high-resolution picture are key devices for highly functional portable information terminals. In this paper, we numerically analyzed the effect of the dispersion of birefringence Δ of the LC and LC-polymer film on the electro-optical properties of new achromatic reflective LCDs using a single-polarizer DTN-LCD and FDTN-LCD with a quarter-wave plate. We found that the LCDs using the typical LC and LC-polymer film exhibit a very high contrast ratio and a high lunminous of about 50% by optimum design of the device parameters.
