Abstract
This paper describes a synchronization mechanism for the applications of distributed simulation system in a shared virtual environment. Frequent sampling events and multiple-lock checking mechanism are used to exchange the updated states and control the concurrent events in the synchronization respectively for optimistic approach. By the proposed mechanism, a consistency-throughput tradeoff between dynamic and consistent shared states can be balanced in both optimistic and conservative synchronization algorithms. Serverless peer-to-peer architecture is used for distributed aspect of communications in the mechanism. Simulation results showing the operation concept of the optimistic synchronization mechanism using in the shared virtual environment application are included for discussion.
