    The nationwide television distribution network for Thailand which provides lives television program via IHAICOM satellite from their master station in Central of Bangkok to local earth station in regional center through out the country The television program received at each local station is then rebroadcast again by television transmitter at their own earth station locations. All television signal has been assigned to access the Thaicorn satellite transponder in FDMA. Single Channel Per Carrier(SCPC)and order wire telephony between their earth station. For Bangkok Braodcasting & TV CO., LTD has master station in Bangkok for and down link with 11 meters modify cassegrain antenna, 45°to FET uncooked low noise amplifier and other associated equipment to provide the signal to up-country While local earth stations are provided with 4.5, 7.5 and 10 meters antenna which depend on location and 46°k FET low noise amplifier, FM Receiver, SCPC equipment and order wired transceiver coordinator.

    This paper proposes a performance analysis comparison of bit error rate of DS-CDMA over Nakagami fading channel with correlated and noncorrelated Nakagami multipath fading channel. The modulation scheme is binary phase shift keying(BPSK), the receiver model is RAKE receiver. It is assumed that the fading parameters in each diversity branch are identical. The simulations are carried out based on MATLAB program. The obtained results show that the effects of correlation cannot be ignored in a correlated Nakagami environment.

    In our recent research, we have investigated synchronization methods for MPEG transport streams and proposed a pseudo-synchronization system that achieves synchronization conversion by inserting and deleting null packets. We have also developed a "transport stream synchronizer" as synchronization equipment for compressed signals, have tested its effectiveness, and have confirmed that it performs as required.

    Current digital cellular and cordless telephone systems are called the second generation systems to the analogue mobile communication systems. According to the statistics on the current cellular systems and its users in the world, the total number reaches more than 450 millions at the beginning of this year. Since the population on the earth is 6 billions, the penetration rate is 8% today. The statistics also shows that roughly 70% users are now use digital systems, and the number of users increases very dynamically. On the other hand, analog systems are now finishing their work. To realize multimedia mobile services and worldwide roaming capability, the third generation system, IMT-2000, is being developed in conjunction with the ITU standardization activities. The service is planed to start around the year 2001 subject to market considerations. IMT-2000 is expected to play the key role of the mobile telecommunication infrastructure for providing multimedia services supported by user bit rates up to 2 Mbit/s. Services that are provided by different second generation systems will be integrated in IMT-2000. Following the expansion of Internet services, the needs for data transmission in fixed services is increasing very rapidly. Therefore, more kinds of application services and more high-speed transmission capability, e. g. more than 2 Mbit/s, are expected for future mobile communication systems. Considering this perspective, the studies of the fourth generation(4G)system have been started in various organizations. This paper gives an overview of the deployment history of mobile communication systems and discusses the studies required for developing the fourth generation system, especially from the viewpoint of frequency spectrum related issues. To realize high-speed more than 2 Mbit/s services into commercial use, the microwave and millimeter wave frequency bands will be required in order to further widen the bandwidth. Breakthrough technologies will be needed to overcome the increase in path loss and the delay spread seen in the high mobility environment. Antenna beam narrowing is one of the effective techniques that can cope with these problems. Narrowing the beam width increases the antenna gain to compensate the increased path loss, and radiation only in the desired direction reduces the delay spread. To adopt narrow beam antennas, the base and mobile station needs the beam tracking function to adjust beam direction. As the base station must communicate with multiple mobile stations in different directions, the base station antenna must be a multi-beam antenna. Using an adaptive array antenna in combination with an equalizer may realize powerful transmission quality improvements in the time and space domain. The adaptive pre-coding for TDD operation, adaptive time slot allocation between frequency channels and beams, and software radio for hybrid access techniques will be also effective for signal transmission in the fourth generation system. The information on the direction of arrival and time of arrival in microwave and millimeter wave frequency bands will become key factors in the enhancement of these techniques. Considering the deployment history of mobile communication systems, we should immediately start studies on the overall objectives, service applications, and technical, operational and spectrum related requirements for 4G system. Taking into account the huge amount of required frequency spectrum for 4G system, we have also to start spectrum studies to find the compromise solution for future radio services and contribute the results to the world radio conference(WRC). Like the decision on the frequency bands allocation for IMT-2000 at the WARC'92, the indication of appropriate frequency bands and bandwidths for 4G system by WRC will make progress in the R&D studies and to ensure the smooth deployment of 4G system.

    1. Digital Satellite Broadcasting Digital satellite broadcasting transmission scheme standardization was completed the end of fiscal 1998. After in the experimental stage, the digital satellite broadcasting over broadcasting satellite(BS)is started from December 1st, 2000. Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting(ISDB)is a platform to realize the innovative broadcasting systems based on digital technology. ISDB makes it possible to provide a variety of services, in addition to merely transmitting pictures, sounds and data, to users in digital format. Research on a satellite ISDB has been underway since 1985. The focus has been on digital transmission schemes that are free from service interruption due to heavy rain, onboard satellite components that operate in new frequency bands, and a common receiver that accepts signals from not only satellites but also terrestrial systems, cables, communication networks, and computers. This paper introduces the current status of digital satellite broadcasting in Japan. 2. Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting Digital terrestrial braoadcasting transmission scheme standardization was finished the end of fiscal 1999. The broadcasting, now in the experimental stage, will begin in the metropolitan area in the year 2003. Multimedia broadcasting providing video, audio, and data in various flexible combinations is a target of ISDB beyond the individual digitalization of existing broadcasting services. In a terrestrial ISDB, this target, including mobile reception, may have to be achieved with less than the required number of frequency channels, at least in the introductory period. The band-segmented transmission of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(BST-OFDM)scheme, which can negotiate frequency constraints and extend the system bandwidth using the band-segmented transmission, will be a key technology for implementing the terrestrial broadcasting. OFDM uses a large number of digitally modulated carriers. It provides sufficient transmission quality under multipath interference. A new transmission scheme called BST-OFDM has been developed that ensures the flexible use of transmission capacity and service expandability in addition to the benefits of OFDM. The basic approach of BST-OFDM is that a transmitting signal consists of the required number of narrow band OFDM blocks called BST-segments, each with a bandwidth of 6/14MHz. This paper focuses about the BST-OFDM and introduces the current status of digital terrestrial broadcasting in Japan.

    The performance of a spherical slot array antenna radiating circularly polarized conical beam is described in this paper. The structure of the antenna is simple and suitable for mass production. This antenna is proposed for applying to the land mobile subscriber unit located far from equator and wireless LAN system. The system of integral equation is solved by Method of Moments with the aids of dyadic Green's function. The impedance characteristics reveal the matching conditions are illustrated. The radiation characteristics such as radiation pattern and directivity are found to be conical beam radiation. The polarization characteristics are inbestigated to perform the circularly polarized radiation. The experimental results verified the theoretical ones.

    This paper reports the characteristics of the conical beam antenna for the application of the wireless Local Area Network system. The directivity enhancement of the conical beam antenna using the conventional monopole on the ground plane can be accomplished by adding the appropriate hemispherical loop surrounding the monopole. The monopole acts as an active element whereas the hemispherical loop exhibits as the parasitic elements. The characteristics of the proposed antenna such as the radiation pattern, directivity, elevational beam peak, back lobe level and azimuthal ripple are illustrated. The experimental results of the radiation pattern are verified the proposed principle and confirmed that this antenna is useful as the base station antenna for wireless LAN application.

    This paper proposes the alternative array antenna pattern synthesis using the Hermite polynomial. This array type can accomplish the most tapered minor lobes at which is suitable for the applications of radar, radio astronomy and low noise systems. The applications of the Hermite polynomial to synthesize the array pattern are discribed. The radiation characteristics of the Hermite array, as a function of the number of elements for various side lobe ratios, such as radiation pattern, half-power beamwidth, first-null beamwidth, beamwidth broadening factor, directivity, excitation efficiency, the nearest to the furthest minor lobe ratio and beam efficiency are illustrated. The results of these properties are compared with the previous works of the array pattern synthesis viz., Legendre, two kinds of Tschebyscheff polynomials, discretized Taylor one-parameter and Taylor n^^methods. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are included.

    This paper proposed a pattern diversity antenna. It is proposed for 2.4GHz ISM band wireless LAN system. The antenna structure is based on a half-wavelength square printed antenna. The RF switches are installed on each side of the antenna to perform switched-beam in order to accomplish the pattern diversity. The characteristics of the antenna are evaluated and presented in this paper. The radiation pattern and directivity of the antenna are calculated by using the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD)method. The diversity characteristics, L.e., correlation coefficient and diversity gain of the antenna are also evaluated. The antenna is investigated for optimum characteristics for wireless LAN application. The numerical results show the greater than 0dBi of antenna directivity and the radiation patterns with the correlation coefficient of 0.5, which can provide the diversity performance. Also, the diversity gain of 8dB at 1% probability can be obtained with the switched combining technique. In addition, the experiment is carried out to verify the characteristics and performance of the antenna. The experimental results show agreement with the numerical result.

    The printed antenna fed by microstrip line is proposed and analyzed. The antenna consists of four slots in the ground plane of the microstrip line. The characteristics of printed antenna such as input impedance, S parameter and far field patters of radiation are obtained by using the finite difference time domain(FDTD)method. The problem space in the FDTD analysis is 63×157×350 cells with the cell dimension Δx=Δy=Δz=0.167mm. Time step is set at the courant condition. Characteristics of printed antenna for matching impedance are obtained for length of offset, spacing of slots and dielectric constant and are shown in figures. From the results this antenna is useful for the mobile and satellite communications.

    This paper reports experimental results of characteristics of the junction-excited waveguide radiators, which the numerical results have been presented in [1]. The junction-excited waveguide radiator is proposed as an array element of a spherical array self-mixing oscillator antenna. There are two configurations of waveguide radiators, ie., normal aperture and 15° inclined aperture waveguide radiators. Each waveguide radiator has one Gunn diode as junction-excited that provides oscillations and self-mixing operations. These waveguide radiators can oscillate at 10GHz with bias voltage of 9.4V. The transmitted power of normal aperture and 15° inclined aperture waveguide radiators are 14.533 and 13.903dBm, respectively. The radiation patterns obtained from experiment are compared with calculated results. The self-mixing performance shows that the normal aperture and 15° inclined aperture waveguide radiators have conversion loss of 36.754 and 35.921dB, respectively for IF frequency of 400MHz.

    For a transmitting antenna system for TV broadcasting, the distance from the face of a tower to the tip of radiating element is desired as short as possible from the viewpoints of scenery, mechanical strength of the tower, maintenance, and so on. In this paper, it is discussed on the application of patch antenna to a transmitting antenna system for UHF TV broadcasting from the standpoint of a radiation pattern.

    The FDTD method is effective for analyzing characteristics of antennas. Using the FDTD method, screen antenna which has antenna elements printed on dielectric substrate with a conductor frame is analyzed. Retrun loss and far field patterns are obtained for some parameters, and their results are shown in figures. They are useful for design of screen atennas.

    This report presents the theoretical and experimental studies on the horizontal patterns obtained using 15 panels around a cross section exceeding 10 wavelengths in radius. A face-sharing multi-panel antenna array was studied and the feasibility of 15-panel array was investigated.

    The cavity-backed resistance-loaded planar monopole antenna for the impulse radar is analyzed by using the electromagnetic simulator "Fidelity" based on the FDTD method. The input impedance and radiation characteristics show the broadband operation for 1.0GHz to 4.5GHz. Next, the actual gain of the active transmitting antenna consisting of amplifier circuit and monople antenna is formulated. The scattering parameters of amplifier circuit of the transmitting antenna are examined by using the circuit simulator "S-nap", and the actual gain of this antenna consisting of the amplifier circuit and the monopole antenna is calculated.

    The problem of coupled microstrip lines through an arbitrary slot in common ground plane is analyzed. A slot is approximated by many narrow rectangular slots. S-parameters are obtained by using the theory of multi-hole directional coupler. Their results are shown in figures and are compared with experiment results. This analytical method is simple and easy. The results are useful for the design in MMIC and MIC.

    The propagation characteristics of the conductor-backed coplanar waveguide are analyzed by using the spectral domain approach(SDA)and the finite difference time domain(FDTD)method. Effective dielectric constants and characteristic impedances of the conductor-backed coplanar waveguide have been computed as a function of frequency. The results are shown in figures. Also, the coupling characteristics of microstrip lines through a slot, reflection, transmission and coupled coefficients have been computed. The results are compared with those which are obtained by another method. Both of them are in good agreement.

    Laos is a longlocked country, many mountains and rivers are located in this country. Therefore, the humidity is high, and there are plenty of precipitations. JICA installed rain gauge in each place in order to measure river flow of Laos. As the result, in Pak Song of the southern district, the region where annual precipitation over 4000mm. An annual precipitation which exceeds 4000mm is observed in equatorial region. At the monthly precipitation of Pak Song(measurement point : Se Done)measured about 1400mm in July 1999. Thie value is equal to annual precipitation of Tokyo, Japan. We obtaine regional characteristics of satellite signals reception non-working rate by rain attenuation. In Laos, it was clarified that the heavy rain region was large.

    This paper presents the experiment result of rain attenuation data measurement in Ku band downlink of Thaicom 2 to find the relation of rain fade time and attenuation loss at each level. By using the computer to record and process data we received this relation which has attenuation level of 2-13dB ranges for fade duration intervals of 0.5-5min, 5-20min and more than 20min to observe the characteristic of rain fade time at the difference period of raining. This experiment has been held a half of year from July to December 1999.
