Abstract
In order to record art works or historical data for the purpose of appreciation, research, education, and so on, studies on digital museum is making progress in various research fields. Especially, in case of preserving three-dimensional objects, it is necessary to take digital photographs from various directions. Thus, the amount of data becomes huge, and a data compression scheme is necessary for archiving them. Moreover, in order to represent art works faithfully, a lossless coding scheme is indispensable. This study aims to construct an encoding system and a browsing system for such images that enables free handling according to the user's demand. As a fundamental study for this purpose, this paper studies a coding method using motion compensation for the image sequence of a cylindrical object taken by rotating it on a turntable.
