A method of shape extraction of facial parts from a facial image with low resolution

Abstract

Nowadays, most people use a mobile personal phone in daily life. As one of desired function, a nonverbal communication system using facial expressions has been expected to realize more effective emotional communication on the phone. In this paper, we propose a method to analyze and extract facial region and several facial parts from low resolution facial images for a caricaturing method of facial expression. Some examples show that most of the extracted regions and parts correspond to respective faces and several facial parts, such as hair, eyes and mouth.
