Roles of Information Devices in the Multimedia Era

Abstract

Information devices, which mediate information and human being, will play important role in the multimedia era. First, present status and subjects of information devices are described. Although CCD technologies are becoming mature, development of CMOS image sensors are accelerated. Flat panel displays among information display devices, i.e., LCDs and PDPs, are actively developed for information terminals and home receivers. Intelligent displays called system-on-panel have attracted special interest. Finally, a new project named Senses Information Communication is introduced, and the related sensing device technologies are reviewed.
