Abstract
Evaluation was made for physical and mental workload in Japanese character input operations with mobile phones. Hiragana input operations were decomposed into thumb's "pressing" on and "moving" over the keypad. Physical workloads of pressing and moving were estimated by subjective report from human subjects. By combining those workload values with each machine's operation scheme and Hiragana sentence database's character statistics, we successfully evaluated the subjects' individual physical workloads for specific machines.
