Abstract
As one of the promising candidates of oaoer-like display, we have been developing the in-plane electrophoretic display (IP-EPD), which has a high legibility, can easily be transformed into a full-color display and can be fabricated on flexible substrates. This report summarizes the development of IP-EPD, including high resolution active matrix driven IP-EPD panel, which was Dublished recently. To achieve a high resolution display, we have fabricated a novel IP-EPD on a 200 dpi, a-Si TFT backplane, which has contrast ratio of l:10 with insufficient writing voltage limited by TFT characteristic. Electric field cross-talk has been orevented by the new electrode design, and images with 4-bit sravscale have been successfully displayed on the prototype.
