In this presentation, we report high density SM optical fiber ribbon cable and jointing technologies for FTTH networks. We have developed a 1000-fiber cable composed of 8-fiber ribbons, a mass fusion splicing technique and a. multi-fiber connector. Further, we have also developed a new maintenance system for optical fiber network with maintenance-free water blocking cables. Using these technologies, we have realized an FTTH system with a highly reliable and economical infrastructure.
