Abstract
This paper presents a CMOS Image Sensor for car-to-car and road-to-car optical communications using LED signal light source. A prototype sensor with 320x480 image pixels and 320x480 communication pixels is implemented with 0.18μm CMOS technology. The measurement results of the implemented chip demonstrates for the first time that a spatial optical communication using a CMOS image sensor and a LED light successfully works in long distance of over 70meters and sufficient data rate of 10Mbps for sending video signals while attaining signal-light finding and tracking functions.
