Abstract

As 3D-TV has been released for home TV, supply of 3D contents has become a key to the 3D market expansion. Chukyo TV, in collaboration with Tokyo Institute of Technology, Keio University, Nagoya University, and Fukui University, received a commissioned research from the National Institute of Information and Communication, entitled "Technology of the core elements of three-dimensional images Telecommunications". The aim of this project is to reduce the cost of production process that is required for "Multi-view picture shooting", "View interpolation" and "Free Viewpoint Video generation". In this paper, we introduce some of our studies, especially focusing on a 3D stereoscopic video production method which utilizes a disparity map and a 2D/3D conversion technique. These techniques can be utilized for creating stereoscopic videos for 3D-TV.
