Abstract
We are conducting the research for a wireless link system that is capable of achieving high link reliability over a wide area for use in mobile relay broadcasting such as road races and golf tournaments. For the system to be feasible, we developed a macrodiversity reception system using many distributed remote antennas and radio-over-fiber (RoF) links. Our receiver combines four diversity branches with good signal quality based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) algorithm after the delay difference correction performed before and behind the fast Fourier transform (FFT). The reception system can provide high link reliability over a wide area because it can combine the signals regardless of the location of base stations. Furthermore, it contributes the improvement of operability because it has the advantage of simplicity. This report describes an outline of the system and results of a practical use in live broadcasting of an ekiden relay race in Kyoto city. It was used as a terrestrial reception system for a motorcycle with a camera and transmitter, and succeeded in receiving the transmitted signal without outage over half of the whole course.
