In re-size (scaling) of a picture, a directional adaptive processing which realizes an improvement of subjective picture quality with a reduction of alias is discussed. In this processing, the clustering to change the processing by area type and the directional adaptive processing at edge area are applied. For this, we have used eight directional operators which are extended from four directional operators, however, its performance depends on picture condition. In this paper, the coefficients of operators are re-designed to improve the two dimensional frequency characteristics which has good direction balance. The area detection method and the interpolation pixel positions are also discussed to improve total performance. As results of experiments, it was recognized that the proposed method gives better PSNR and subjective picture quality without jaggy.

In the many kinds of video system, an objective picture quality estimation method without the reference picture is required. To respond this, non-reference estimation methods for the block artifact, the mosquito noise and the spatial blur have been studied. On the other hand, the degradation of delicate detail becomes significant on the recent video coding. Such degradation named "coring degradation" should also be estimated without reference picture. To realize this, we propose the estimation method for the coring degradation using the spatial blur estimation and edge/flat area division. The spatial blur is estimated by using DCT, and, the band division and level of blur of each area is compared. As the results of evaluation, the coring degradation factor becomes high in the coding with de-blocking filtering. This means that the proposed method works as the estimation of coring degradation.

We have proposed a sequential color system for use as a video format. In this system, three color planes are used sequentially, a conversion to whole RGB picture with the interpolation of missing color plane is required. However, conventional motion estimation is not useful because of the changing of color plane by a frame. To respond this, we have proposed the motion estimation method using the contour picture. However, the difference between the contour of different color is not small in high color picture. In this paper, we propose the normalizing processing for contour picture by area level. The error reduction processing for motion vector is also applied. As results of experiments, it is recognized that PSNR and subjective picture quality of motion compensated picture is improved significantly.

Cooperative communication has been studied as a way to improve reliability of networks compared to conventional direct transmission scheme. We consider amplify-and-forward (AF) cooperative communication with multiple relays. In this system, there is a problem that which relay nodes should be selected and how much power should be allocated to the selected relay nodes. Most of conventional researches on this model have focused on only improving channel capacity or reliability, rather than saving power consumption in all over the network with maintaining such communication qualities. Once, we proposed a new power allocation scheme for multiple relay nodes using game theory that focuses on transmission power efficiency. In this report, with computer simulation, we show that our proposed game theoretical approach has superiority to some conventional schemes from the viewpoint of transmission power efficiency.

In cellular system, the technique of coordinated multi-point transmission and reception (CoMP) is drawing attention for improving the capacity of cell-edge users which suffre from the severe inter-cell interference. In this report, we propose a orthogonal beamforming (BF) algorithm to achieve high capacity performance using coordinated transmission in multi-cell MIMO broadcast channel. In the proposed algorithm, the base stations initially select a user of cell-edge users, and generate the optimal BF vector for the selected user and schedule the one. At the same time, the base stations schedule the users which have high SNR to achieve high system capacity. We compare the number of feedback bits and the system capacity between the proposed method and conventional CoMP method. In the result, we show that the proposed method achieve the higher capacity of the cell-edge user while maintaining the system capacity.

Image enlargement method using linear interpolation causes blur because edge is extend as same as non-edge region. In this paper, we have proposed image enlargement method for preservation of edge using quadratic Bezier curve. Our method calculates fitting curves each scan lines in the image and makes enlargement image by extending fitting curves with preservation of edge. As a result, it is seen that the proposal method doesn't have blur in the enlargement image compared with linear interpolation method.

In V-Low mobile multimedia broadcasting, file-casting content service by data carousel transmission method is discussed. Past studies had clarified relationship between the successful receiving probability of the file-casting contents and the number of broadcast repetition for the same content, and the size of DDB under mobile environment from laboratory experiments. This time, we received experiment transmission's signal in the area near to the fringe, and clarified relationship between the successful receiving probability and the number of broadcast repetition, and the size of DDB.

The ISDB-T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial) is a terrestrial digital TV broadcasting system in Japan. One-segment service is a broadcasting service for mobile terminals like a mobile phone. However, reception quality of One-segment service is deteriorated in a multipath fading channel because the bandwidth is narrower than ordinal 13-segment ISDB-T. The antenna diversity is one of the effective techniques to solve the multipath fading problem. However, it is difficult to install multiple antennas in a small mobile terminal. In this paper, cooperative reception scheme using multiple terminals for digital television broadcasting one-segment service is proposed. The error rate performance can be improved by increasing the number of the receiving terminal in the one-segment service.

The guard interval is extended with the OFDM symbol to ensure against the multipath. Thus, interference from the delay signal can be removed when the delay time is shorter than the guard interval duration. However, when the delay time is longer than the guard interval duration, ISI and ICI are happened and it is difficult to remove them. In this paper, the influence of the long delay signal reduction scheme by using the transfer function matrix extended to all bandwidth of the OFDM symbol is proposed. Moreover, another reduction scheme by using re-modulated replica signal is proposed in order to reduce the amount of calculation. The performances are evaluated to show the effectiveness of the both proposed schemes in ISDB-T system.

In Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB), the identification of multipath is important to improve its reception quality. In order to enhance the resolution of the delay profile, it is effective that plural channels are connected and the frequency bandwidth is extended. However, the guard band is existed between each channel and the frequency response is dropped off. In this report, interpolation scheme by using the adaptive filter based on the RLS algorism is proposed to enhance the resolution of the delay profile.

We are conducting the research for a wireless link system that is capable of achieving high link reliability over a wide area for use in mobile relay broadcasting such as road races and golf tournaments. For the system to be feasible, we developed a macrodiversity reception system using many distributed remote antennas and radio-over-fiber (RoF) links. Our receiver combines four diversity branches with good signal quality based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) algorithm after the delay difference correction performed before and behind the fast Fourier transform (FFT). The reception system can provide high link reliability over a wide area because it can combine the signals regardless of the location of base stations. Furthermore, it contributes the improvement of operability because it has the advantage of simplicity. This report describes an outline of the system and results of a practical use in live broadcasting of an ekiden relay race in Kyoto city. It was used as a terrestrial reception system for a motorcycle with a camera and transmitter, and succeeded in receiving the transmitted signal without outage over half of the whole course.

The push-to-talk communication line for broadcasting services is used in the VHF band (165 MHz) and UHF band (460 MHz) in Japan. It is used for communication between staff during news gathering, television and radio program production, and so on. We designed a helical antenna with a metallic case as a handheld type transceiver and calculated the characteristics of the antenna with a numerical model of the human body. To investigate the effect of the human posture on the performance of the antenna, we calculated the antenna gain and radiation patterns when the antenna is in close proximity to the face. From these results, we found that the radiation patterns between with and without consideration of the arm and the human posture are significantly different in VHF band, however, the differences of the radiation patterns due to the arm are significant and the human posture are small in UHF band.

We have started a basic study on a bi-directional transmission system to develop the new microwave band Field Pick-up Unit (FPU) that can efficiently transmit file-based videos. In FPU system, it is assumed that the amount of information of Uplink containing main file-based videos is 10 to 100 times greater than that of Downlink. We have adopted an Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) method, that is appropriate for Time Division Duplex (TDD). This method synchronizes TDD frames and ARQ, therefore we confirmed the high transmission efficiency in disproportionate uplink-to-downlink time ratio. Also depending on Hybrid ARQ combined by ARQ with Forward Error Correction (FEC), we confirmed that this method is effective under the state that errors occur.

Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcasting transmitter has 12.5% power efficiency because the OFDM signal used by the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting has large PAPR and needs back-off. By selecting doherty amplifier circuit at the final stage of amplifier circuits of PA (Power Amplifier), and by using GaN HEMT (Gallium Nitride High Electron Mobility Transistor), the new PA has over 30% better efficiency than existing ones. Also, by adopting the DPD (Digital Pre-distortion) suitable for doherty amplifier circuit for the exciter., the new TV transmitter has over 20% better efficiency than existing ones.

Feasibility study on a frequency transition of Field Pick-up Unit (FPU) system from 700MHz to 1.2GHz or 2.3GHz band is being carried out. In the past, the authors studied space-time trellis coded multiple-input multiple-output (STTC-MIMO) transmission technology for future 700MHz-band FPU system. 16QAM-STTC encoder and decoder were proposed, 2x2 STTC-MIMO-OFDM transmission equipment was developed and the performance was confirmed by outdoor transmission experiments. STTC-MIMO technology was thought to be valid in the new frequency band. In addition to 16QAM-STTC, QPSK-STTC and 8PSK-STTC were studied, and the QPSK-STTC was implemented into the hardware, while the demodulation method of the hardware was revised. Performance improvement due to these modification was verified by the quantitative evaluation using a channel simulator.
