Abstract
We previously proposed the horizontally scanning holography that can enlarge both the screen size and the viewing zone angle. The horizontally scanning holography displays several elementary holograms by a MEMS high-speed SLM and a horizontal scanner to provide a small pixel pitch and a high resolution. The horizontally scanning holography needs to binarize the hologram patterns, because high-speed SLMs tend to be able to display only low-bit resolution grayscale images, so that image degradation occurs in reconstructed images. The method of improvement of the grayscale representation of the reconstructed images was previously proposed, which used several threshold levels and a laser modulation. In this study, we use the error diffusion technique to determine the binary hologram patterns. The error diffusion technique is simple and requires only one threshold.
