Abstract

The use of nonlinear excitation improves the spatial resolution of confocal microscopy in 3D. The nonlinear relation between excitation and emission reduces the detection spot of laser scanning, allowing us to observe samples with the improved spatial resolution and image contrast. We have utilized several different photophysical mechanisms, such as saturated excitation and visible-wavelength two-photon excitation to induce nonlinear optical emissions.
