A Study on Application of Emergency Warning Broadcasting System by Analogue Radio for Overseas Expansion

Abstract

EWBS (Emergency Warning Broadcasting System) which can automatically activates the receivers compatible with its function, is provided via both digital and analogue broadcasting in Japan as efforts for disaster reduction against to earthquakes, tsunami and so on. The EWBS via digital broadcasting is one of key features of ISDB-T and is contributory to deploy ISDB-T to overseas countries having a lot of interest in disaster reduction. On the other hand, the EWBS can be provided via analogue radio broadcasting, so its technology can be also deployed to overseas countries without installation of ISDB-T, smooth progress of digital broadcasting due to some problem. In this time, we conducted a research to understand need for the EWBS in some countries and a consideration to update the specification of the EWBS currently operated in Japan since 1985.
