Abstract
Since the motion estimation process of the MPEG video encoding requires quite large computational complexity, various optimization methods tried to reduce the processing load. This paper proposes a new motion estimation design that optimizes trade-off between MV detection accuracy and the processing load, by focusing on smoothing effect of interpolated pixels and introducing prioritized half-pel motion search.
