4-3 A Study on Lossless Image Coding Using Example-Based Probability Modeling

Abstract

High efficient lossless coding schemes typically employ some kind of prediction technique to decorrelate image signals. In this paper, we propose another approach which directly encodes the image signals without prediction. A probabilty density function of the image value at each pel is estimated based on several examples obtained by template matching in its causal area.
