Abstract

Tracheostomy is common surgical procedure in the ICU. We surveyed 97 patients who admitted to our ICU in 2012 - 2017 retrospectively. The median age was 76, the ratio of male to female was 65 : 32, the most common cause was respiratory failure. The surgical tracheostomy was performed in 65 patients, the percutaneous tracheostomy was 15 and the hybrid method was 13. The duration of the percutaneous tracheostomy was significantly shorter than surgical and hybrid methods. The timing of tracheostomy was median 8 days (2-24 days). Although the percutaneous tracheostomy is superior, young surgeons may prefer surgical tracheostomy.
