Abstract

A 67-year-old male, after left pneumonectomy against lung cancer, was brought to our emergency room because of coma. He had been taking efavirenz for human immune-deficiency virus (HIV) infection. A urine drug screening test by Triage DOA® was done in search of cause of consciousness disturbance. The result turned positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). After the administration of a respirator, he came back conscious and denied about overdose of THC. Administration of efavirenz was continued during hospitalization. Triage DOA® turned positive again for THC at 100th hospital day. As efavirenz had been reported to show a false positive result of THC, we concluded that this patient's result was also a false positive.
