Abstract

Passive type MR dampers which use permanent magnets and can adjust the damping characteristics in response to its motion are proposed. The prototype has been manufactured and the dynamic performance is verified by displacement excitation test. The test demonstrates that the damping characteristics depend on its displacement, that is, the damper behaves as a linear viscous damper under smaller vibrations and develops much higher damping force under large vibrations.
