Accurate state-of-charge (SOC) estimation in rechargeable batteries plays a key role for the battery management system. To achieve the accurate SOC estimation, it is required to construct a model that expresses the dynamics of the batteries with sufficient accuracy. However, owing to the complexity of hysteresis phenomena in batteries, there inevitably exist modeling errors, which deteriorate the estimation accuracy. In this paper we focus on the modeling errors of hysteresis phenomena and propose a robust observer design that reduces the deterioration. The observer gain is obtained from a solution of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated through a numerical simulation.
