Although clinical changes were not observed in the contacts of the anterior teeth during edge-to-edge occlusion, when centric position was established during attempts to improve the position of the mandible, serious systemic symptoms that has continued for several years were eliminated and it was possible to return the patient to a healthy life. Two years after treatment it was found when investigations were carried out that there was a change in the reproduction of the position of the mandible in the subject due to changes in the centric position guidance method.
When the joint operates in an environment where the condyle is very mobile, it is desirable to first stabilize the condyle and then select a method that does not apply force on the condyle when taking the interocclusal registration. With the understanding that the position of maximum intercuspation is a dynamic balancing condition, I feel that a mandibular position permitting the maximum allowable changes in pressure while the condyle is in the fossa makes a very important contribution when adjusting the temporomandibular joint and centric relation, as well as when occlusion achieves a physical and psychological balance.
