Gothic arch has been used to determine a horizontal mandibular position and adjust condylar paths of an articuator by taking a check bite.
With the aging of the society, the number of edentulous patients with mandibular dysfunction will continue to increase. The author examined the temporomandibular joints of 40 edentulous patients over a period of 5 years. 34 of them were found to have dysfunction. Their mandibular functions were evaluated by examining their Gothic arch tracings and relationship between the spaces and tapping points, which will be discussed from a clinical viewpoint.
