Abstract

This paper aims to organize the viewers’ behavioral changes occurring in Japan’s television broadcasting industry as a result of digitalization and clarify the economic conditions that determine its earnings sustainability. Drawing on Uses and Gratifications Theory and a two-sided market model, the study demonstrates the effectiveness of analyzing changes in viewing behavior and derives functions that optimize advertising volume and viewer pricing in both the television broadcasting industry and video streaming platforms, thereby examining the implications for pricing strategies.
