Abstract
G. E. Moore helped to form the conception of duty in the young Keynes. Duty was a means of intensifying personal affection and aesthetic enjoyment. Initially this notion had nothing to do with a duty to support the arts. However Keynes modified and expanded the idea to include social responsibility for the arts as an essential element in civilization.
