Abstract

Can we bridge a discussion between “art” and “technology”? In this paper, we focus the site of production and the agent of production in performing arts and industrial technology. We analyze the comparison of the features between factory and theatre. Based on such analysis, the special feature of the theatre is assumed to be embodied in the principles behind its the organization of production, and that the essence of the factory is likewise embodied in the principles behind its the organization of production. Furthermore, we analyze the function of artist, who is the direct agent of production in performing arts, by the comparison of the basic idea on the artisan and the factory worker who has the artisan spirit.
