Resection of chemo-refractory mediastinal yolk sac tumor: A case report

Abstract

A 21-year-old man with a yolk sac tumor of the mediastinum presented to out hospital after chemotherapy with multiple cisplatin-based regimens. Despite persistent elevated serum AFP after 3^rd-line chemotherapy, surgery was preferred because further chemotherapy was suggested to be no longer effective. Complete resection was achieved, and he was alive without tumor recurrence as of 17 months after surgery.
