Abstract
The study reports on the practice of “introduction to multiculturalism,” which is a course focusing on learning about local cultures across the world. In the practice, the study defines knowledge and attitudes considered essential for individuals to possess in the global society. Such components are deemed part of the acquisition of “multicultural perspectives” and “global perspectives.” The study established such perspectives as the overall educational goals of the subject.
Through the practice, the study suggested that education on multiculturalism by learning various languages and cultures across the world may liberate learners from ethnocentric perspectives and enable them to acquire “multicultural” and “global” perspectives. Based on the outcome of the practice, the study inferred that multilingual and multicultural education may help learners to visualize the local culture using a more relativized and diversified pespective.
