Abstract

Knowledge of faculty development (FD) has been developed in the areas of class design, lecture methods, and active learning. However, there is no step-by-step developmental, systematic, or universal indicator to assess the educational abilities of individual faculty members or the status of the faculty organization. Some issues remain, such as whether FD is based on the situations of individual faculty members and the organization. Therefore, the (1) establishment of an index for faculty members to objectively grasp their teaching ability and (2) systematization of the corresponding FD will be conducted to formulate an FD map of teaching ability. This established model can be used as a reference for university faculty members to improve their educational abilities.

At the round table, the content of the research conducted to develop the FD map was reported, and the FD map developed in this study was explained. Based on this discussion, the issues and indicators of FD were discussed with the participants. As a result, issues of FD in Japan, the target audience of the FD map, and issues with indicators were also considered.
