ABSTRACT: Many of the islands in Japan have suffered from depopulation and population ageing and have problems about transportation in these islands. Especially, securing mobility for elderly people has been one of big problems of transportation in these islands. However, they don't have fundamental data to analyze behavior of the people in the islands and to plan measures for these problems.
In this study, a person trip survey were carried out to the people in the Osaki-Kamijima Island, which is located in the middle of the Seto Inland Sea, and the data obtained from this survey are analyzed to reveal some characteristics of travel behavior of the people, in particular elderly people. As the results from the analyses, the number of trips, travel purpose, transportation used by the people and so on were revealed.
