Actual Use Condition of Travel Behavior on Ferry Route Between Yamaguchi and Oita Prefectures

ABSTRACT : A ferry route links Yamaguchi and Oita Prefectures from Tokuyama Port (Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture) to Taketazu Port (Kunisaki City, Oita Prefecture). This route is the only one connecting the Chugoku and Kyushu regions. The study conducted a questionnaire survey from September 5, 2017 to October 4, 2017, among users, excluding logistics companies, such as truck drivers, to evaluate the actual use of this ferry route. Data from 617 valid responses were used. The most common purpose for using the ferry was "sightseeing/leisure," followed by "homecoming/visiting acquaintances" and "business trips". The results of the analysis of the origin and destination of the users revealed that many of them were specifically traveling from Yamaguchi and Hiroshima Prefectures to Oita Prefecture.
