Abstract
We are running an archiving project of digitizing 5,000 woodblocks for Japanese printed books owned by Nara University, to apply them to researching on publishing in Edo period. Though they have remarkable points of view, they have been considered to be just attendants on printed books. It's important to observe woodblocks accurately because the research on them will bring us better eye for printed books, then they will stimulate on studies in publishing, literature and the arts, based on bibliography. This article propose the necessity of "Bibliography for Woodblocks", mentioning how to observe woodblocks and their physical structure.
