Abstract
The current study evaluates the changes in office work and office construction activities in central Tokyo after the 1990s and identifies the impacts on the development of central Tokyo and its urban space. The promotion of informationization and the reformation of employee management was the basis for corporate restructuring at the accounting-based management-consulting firms after the 1990s. The need for office space was greatly reduced by the development of a free address office system and enhanced by introducing the mobile work environment. Workplace reconstruction combined with corporate restructuring, reduced the value of satellite offices. In contrast. the role of the office as a functional center for the team projects and as a showcase strengthens the choice of locating in the central business district.
