Abstract

In 2005, "The Japanese Evidenced-Based Guidelines for Acute Cholangitis and Cholecystitis" were created. In addition, the diagnostic criteria, severity criteria, transportation criteria and medical flow chart for acute cholangitis and cholecystitis were clearly indicated. Determining severity is particularly important in severe cases, which require urgent biliary drainage. On the other hand, urgent biliary drainage can not always be performed in many hospitals. We report on the evaluation of initial treatment in 238 acute cholangitis patients with choledocholithiasis in our hospital between April 2006 and September 2009. All patients were diagnosed according to "The Japanese Evidenced-Based Guidelines for Acute Cholangitis and Cholecystitis", and we determined the severity, and performed drainage of the bile duct.
