In β-irradiation facilities using unsealed 85Kr gas as internal radiation source for chemical reactions in the liquid phase, it is necessary to remove chemically active gases from mixtures containing 85Kr-impurities. A gas-purification equipment has been devised for the 85Kr radiation source. The purification is achieved by removing O2 and N2 impurities with activated CuO and Ca, respectively. This paper outlines this equipment and presents the experimental results obtained therewith on the purification of a 100Ci 85Kr source. It is shown that purification of the 85Kr source is possible with this equipment, and the purified 85Kr gas can be used repeatedly as radiation source for chemical reactions.
