The Monte Carlo coupling technique is a powerful means to solve shielding problems with deep-penetration and radiation streaming. The statistical error propagation from the first and the succeeding calculations to the final results of interest is expected in the coupling calculations. However, a related formula for the error propagation has not yet been introduced.
The propagation of statistical error in the Monte Carlo coupling technique was investigated, and a error-propagation equation was derived. The error-propagation equation was applied to the analysis of the neutron streaming experiment through the duct performed at the JRR-4, and the effect of the error propagation was evaluated. In addition, the error-propagation equation was extended to N-times Monte Carlo coupling calculation.
