Turbulence models are often indispensable for investigating flow phenomena in engineering and natural science. In this article, the necessity of turbulence models are clarified in close relation to the energy dissipation mechanism in turbulence. Moreover, how these models are constructed and what care is necessary for their application are explained with special attention paid to the k-ε model.
