Explosion bonded dissimilar metal joint of stainless steel, Ta and Zr was developed and applicabilities to nuclear fuel reprocessing equipment have been studied.
The dissimilar metal joint of four Zr sheets which were laminated on the surface of Ta pre-bonded stainless steel was fabricated by explosive bonding technique. In this study, microstructures, tensile properties, corrosion properties and effect of heat treatment on properties of the dissimilar metal joint were investigated.
The results indicated that: (1) The dissimilar metal joint shows good tensile properties. (2) Elongation and impact properties of Zr in bonded region are improved by heat treatment. (3) After corrosion test, any local attacks were not observed at the bonding interface of the joint irrespective of heat treatment.
