In order to recover uranium from seawater, the concept of a fixed bed unit utilizing the flow of the ocean current has been proposed. The adsorption unit was charged with a bundle of amidoxime capillary fibers prepared by radiation-induced grafting. The fluid velocity into the adsorption unit was measured in a two-dimensional pool. A model was presented to derive the correlation between pressure drop across the adsorption unit and mean superficial velocity of the flow in the unit. This correlation was evaluated by numerical analysis using the discrete vortex method combined with the source distribution method. Furthermore, the amount of uranium adsorbed was calculated for the system using a "folding screen" type adsorber.
