The history of Hanoi Old Quarter began when the capital was constructed in 1010. The historic houses had decreased, but historic urban structure has remained. In 2004 the area was designated as a national conservation area. However, while the area is the center of economy and culture of Vietnam, it is also an international tourist spot. Therefore, many changes of employment to tourist business are performed causing the remodeling and reconstruction of the town houses. In this paper, the variety of the changes for the new tourism is examined. In addition, the contents of appearance of town houses when changed for tourist business are clarified.
As a result, the following things were clarified.
1) The number of shops increased, most of them are tourist business.
2) The tourist business was high density.
3) Many of the restaurants for tourists were remodeled, and most reconstructions are for hotels.
4) Travel agencies set up large and many signboards, making the landscape complicated.
