This study examines package tour patterns from Taiwan, a mature market with many repeat visitors to Japan, and China, a growing market with many first-time visitors to Japan. The number of package tours to various regions in Japan sold is used as the object of analysis to clarify the tendencies of both groups to visit different regions. Results of the analysis show that Taiwanese package tours visit all of the prefectures in Japan, many package tours only visit areas outside the three metropolitan areas, and among these, Kyushu and Tohoku regions are preferred destinations. The prefectural visit rates of package tours in China vary significantly from prefecture to prefecture; they visit the three metropolitan areas and all other areas. Among these, the prefectures included in the Golden Route are the preferred destinations.
