Lake water at Lake Tairo and groundwater at a well are monitored in relation to the 2000 volcanic eruption of Miyakejima Island, Japan. In order to estimate short-term water balance of the lake, response of the lake water level to rainfall was analyzed. Twenty-five events were chosen from the observation data at the lake from January 2001 to February 2002. No significant temporal fluctuation of the balance between input of groundwater and surface flow and output of groundwater was observed.
