Abstract
A new separation and adsorption material for metal ions was synthesized. Certain kinds of solvent extraction reagents such as H2bbpen or Schiff base were loaded onto a silica gel or combined banana fiber. The H2bbpen derivatives of the reagent for solvent extraction, such as (N, N'-bis-(5-chloro-2-ydroxybenzyl)-N,N'-bis(2-methylpyridyl)-ethylenediamine) (H2Clbbpen) were loaded onto silica gel which was introduced as octadecyl groups. Ga3+ and In3+ was extracted into 1,2-dichloroethane with H2Clbbpen at acidic solution. The separation and adsorption materials carried out the adsorption of Ga3+ and In3+ in the acidic region as same as a result of the solvent extraction. The separation and adsorption materials that carried out the chemical bond of the Schiff base to banana fiber were synthesized. Transition metal ions can be adsorbed from weak acidic solution into banana fiber that was introduced as Schiff base. Cs+ and Sr2+ were also adsorbed by untreated banana fiber.
