Ion exchange membranes are widely used in numerous fields of separation and purification of useful materials by means of electrodialysis. Recently, ion exchange membranes are increasingly required excellent chemical stability, especially chemical resistance and heat resistance. In this report, newly improved membranes with high chemical stability were prepared and characterized. The obtained membrane performed much better chemical stability than conventional ion exchange membranes. Sufficient durability for strong base and high temperature was confirmed. The developed membranes have been commercialized and have contributed to create some new electrodialysis applications that were difficult with a conventional ion exchange membrane.
