Abstract

Gully region of Loess Plateau is one of the subtype regions and natural geographical units in Loess Plateau. Courtyard space of vernacular dwellings actually owns the functions of ecological energy saving, climate adjustment, and have a positive influence on the light environment, wind environment and thermal environment for the residential buildings. Since the implementation of new countryside construction in 2005, this region has developed amazingly. Under such background, based on the results of field investigation, this research classified the different courtyard types of the newly built vernacular dwellings in gully regions, choosing typical dwellings as case study objectives, detailed analysis the characteristics of different type courtyards. The aim of this research is realizing the ecological and sustainable development of vernacular dwelling. All the results of this research can make up shortages and fill the gap of ecological planning in the new countryside construction and be used as the basis for the future research on the ecological design methods for vernacular dwellings.
